1960/70’s

Rocking the boat

  • First female to take mechanical drawing in her high school
  • One of the first women to be accepted at the all male college: Lehigh University

1970’s

Subsistence farming to get through college.

Somewhere between Colfax Palouse and Pullman WA.

 

 

Practicing to lead students … and whoa! that is one big egg … hopefully not due to all the radioactive experiments Ms. Poeter was doing on the Hanford reservation at the time!

1980

May 18, 1980 near Colfax WA, mid-afternoon was pitch black, volcanic ash looked like snow.

The morning after the eruption, Eileen’s PhD defense was scheduled for 8AM, the morning traffic raised dust that caused the university to close … an unheard of event, but the PhD committee showed up in spite of the ash and the defense was a success!
