VERTEX Labs & Collaborative Opportunities

At VERTEX, our state-of-the-art laboratory facilities encompass Experimental Drilling Rigs, Advanced Drilling Models, and dedicated HPHT (High-Pressure High-Temperature) Drilling Fluid & Cement Labs. By merging hands-on experimentation with sophisticated simulations, we refine drilling techniques and engineer novel solutions for extreme downhole conditions. Through close collaboration with industry partners and academic experts, these specialized labs enhance our capacity to innovate, optimize, and drive the future of sustainable and efficient subsurface energy extraction.

CSM Experimental Drilling Rig

  • The Sandvik DE-130 drilling rig can drill up to 800 meters with a 6-inch hole size, supporting vertical, directional, and horizontal drilling applications.
  • Located at CSM’s underground Edgar Mine laboratory, the facility enables controlled testing of advanced drilling models and new technologies.

HPHT Drilling Fluid & Cement Lab

  • Developing next-generation cement formulations for HPHT and supercritical conditions, with applications in geothermal wells, CO₂ sequestration, and self-healing cement technologies.
  • Experimental and computational analysis of fluid rheology and hydraulics to optimize drilling fluid stability, hole cleaning efficiency, and cuttings transport dynamics under extreme downhole conditions.
  • Laboratory equipment rated for temperatures up to 204°C, with a curing chamber capable of reaching 370°C for high-temperature cement testing.
